Systems engineer Tanya Gamaley recently sat down to share her thoughts on DAT Freight & Analytics, her role, and her delicious first job.

Why DAT? What did you know about DAT prior to working there?

Tanya Gamaley (TG): When I was looking for jobs, what caught my attention was DAT’s long history of bringing together shippers, freight brokers, and carriers. The tools and analytics they offer on their platform are really impressive. This mix of being a well-known industry player with a strong history and great technology made me excited about joining the DAT team.

What’s your favorite part of working for DAT?

TG: From day one, the best part about being at DAT is the amazing team and our shared dedication to engineering solutions.

What is a typical day at DAT like for you?

TG: I’m focused on ensuring the quality of our software for the greenfield project. What’s particularly exciting is that I’m involved right from the start, contributing to the creation of a new system, akin to assembling a puzzle from scratch. This involves facing challenges and exploring innovative opportunities while working closely with our talented development team.

What book(s) are you reading at the moment?

TG: My friend recommended that I read ‘The Rosie Project’ by Graeme Simsion, and I’ve been thoroughly enjoying it. The book is quite hilarious and had me laughing throughout. As an engineer, I found myself relating to some of the quirks of the main character, even though I’m nowhere near his level of life optimization. It’s been a great read!

What was the first job you ever had?

TG: My first job was as a waiter at The Cheesecake Factory.

What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of?

TG: One work achievement that really warms my heart is seeing how our combined efforts have positively influenced our product.
