As a data architect, one could say Jeremy Lowell puts the D-A-T-A into DAT. Jeremy recently sat down to share his thoughts on DAT Freight & Analytics, his role, and which data architecture job positions he’s looking to fill.

Why DAT? And did you know about DAT prior to working there?

Jeremy Lowell (JL): Transportation and the broader supply chain industry saw some incredible challenges and opportunities brought about by Covid.  I believe that these pale in comparison to the changes we will see in the next five to ten years in this vertical.  This will be driven by data.  Autonomous vehicles will begin to take shape, but what will really drive this change is companies who embrace their data and can effectively utilize it to provide solutions for the broader industry.

What’s your favorite part of working within DAT?

JL: Ability to make a difference and my leader is driven, smart, and engaged.

What do your usual duties at work involve?

JL: Working with bright, motivated, and knowledgeable peers.  Of course, challenging the status quo, critical thinking, and seeing where the data leads will always be what drives me

What book(s) are you reading at the moment?

JL: Change: How To Turn Uncertainty Into Opportunity; The Space Trilogy: C.S. Lewis (recommended by a fellow DAT’er!); Soul Detox: Craig Groeschel

What was the first job you ever had?

JL: The Donut Mill in Woodland Park, CO.

What’s the most exciting part of your current job role?

JL: Getting to know the data

What’s one professional achievement you’re most proud of?

JL: Hearing someone say, “thank you.” More officially, I’m a published writer and a speaker at national conferences.

Are you hiring/have any open positions you’d like to share?

JL: DAT is always looking for the best and brightest. We’re currently looking for a Data Engineer with an emphasis on a Data Platform in a Microservices environment.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?

JL: Listen to understand versus respond. And don’t let urgent get in the way of important.
