Rankings based on transaction data in DAT RateView

What do you get when you combine an economy that’s growing like gangbusters and a truck shortage? That’d be 2018.

The surge in truckload demand led to record-high rates last year, as freight brokers and shippers routinely had trouble securing capacity. For comparison, there were 161 million truck loads posted on the DAT Load Board in 2017. Last year, there were 260 million loads posted.

That underscores how much trouble brokers had finding trucks. But to see exactly which markets were the busiest, we looked at data from DAT RateView, which tracks loads that were actually moved, based on more than $57 billion in freight payments to carriers. Above were the top 10 markets for outbound dry van, refrigerated van and flatbed freight loads.
